The carb is the small Briggs Flo-Jet with the four bowl screws. Briggs made three sizes of Flo-Jet carbs. The small one you have with four bowl screws, A medium size that only has three bowl screws and a Large size that also has four bowl screws. The large one with the four bowl screw is twice the size of the small one. The small four screw Flo-Jet was used on several engine models. Models N, 5, 6, 8, 60000 series and 80000 series.
A 1500 watt generator needs about 3 HP to drive it. A 80000 series Briggs engine is 3 HP. You are looking for MAYBE a Briggs P/N 295607. THIS P/N is ONLY one possibility. You really need the engine MODEL and TYPE number to get the correct Part Number for the carb used on this engine. If you will look on the edge of the flywheel shroud just to the left of the intake port in the block you will likely find the engine's Model, Type, and Code or serial number. WHY do you think you need a new carb?
The Briggs Flo-Jets are relatively EASY to repair. Thanks so much for the info, I will see if I can hunt down the model, type, and serial numbers. I know that those numbers are critical, just seem to be worn off, or painted over, I will look.
I don't necessarily need to replace the carb, a repair kit might work with some good cleaning. The issue is that the needle valve on the left side of the carb near the bowl was overtightened and looks to me that it may have widened the fuel port opening. The engine seems to flood if the valve is opened 1/2 turn, or stall if closed less than 1/2 turn. OK, I found the numbers exactly where you said they would be, had to remove air cleaner, then I was able to see them. The are listed as follows: Thanks, jim I attached the parts list from B&S, I believe this is the correct Parts list for Model: 81431 Type: 943678 You can download the parts list here.
