Cupsaddsmb 'Unable to copy Windows 2000 printer driver files (2)!' Good morning, I am in the process of integrating CUPS and Samba to allow Windows clients to automatically download print drivers from the server.
I'm running vista home premium and have it connected to a home network (the host computer is running xp home edition). I can connect to the internet and share files and do everything else over the network except print. Whenever I run the add a printer wizard the printer I am trying to connect to appears as an option (its an hp 5550 networked through the host computer) and when I try to connect I get the error message 'Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied'.
I'm using an administer account and printer sharing is turned on on both my and the host computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I had the same problem. I found a solution.
Logically it makes no sense to me, but it worked so. Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer. Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a new port.
The default in the drop down box is Local Port. Do not change that. A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the name printer name ie. My computer's name is basement and the printer name is EpsonSty so I typed in Yahoo!
I guess Microsoft thinks printers on a intranet are local. Hope this helps someone else so they don't spend the hours I did on it! I am currently going through the same issue. All xp machines are workin great. I have just added a New Vista laptop. It sees and shares all the resources.so far. The Vista machine sees the printers but when trying to add i get 'Access Denied' error.
Trying to get some help answers has been frustrating. I have never had this problem ever setting up a network. If i cant get it to work I have no choice but take new laptop back or go out and buy XP and install over Vist.
I have tried some workarounds i have read but still a no go. But even if they did work, it would be a solution but an unacceptable solution.
Maybe this will be fixed in SP1.or Maybe not. I had the same problem. I found a solution.

I have been getting basic answers and have tried them all.I have installed uninstalled reinstalled hardware,drivers etc.I even tried the Computer store where I purchased just to see if they had come across this issue. (They told me it might be my firewall or a Virus!!). Searching the internet showed me this is a major problem.Your suggestion was the last one I was going try before installing XP.

You think as many posts there are on the internet about this problem - and I'm sure that their tech support has gotten tons of calls, that Microsoft would have come up with a patch. It will be interesting to see how long it takes them to correct this problem. I'm having problems connecting up a second printer so I wonder if more than one printer is also an issue. I haven't had enough time to figure it out yet, but I suspect there will be more than one issue. Thanks for the input!
