I sincerely hope I'm posting in the correct forum. I'm about to purchase a Motorola xts3000 III UHF and a xts3000 III VHF. I have the CPS programming software but I am wondering specifically if the UHF software can drop it low is 440.000.

I am certainly willing to lose the top end at 520.000. Would I need to adjust the VCO in the XTS? Lastly, how can I tell if the XTS is capable of FPP? Australia topographic map.

The 440 version identifier is H09SDF9PW7BN flash code 590008-0C0600-3 and the VHF is H09KDH9PW7BN flash code 100-4. I read some people say that the 3000's are not capable of FPP and I know otherwise. I know a couple of hams have 3000 and they have a simple keyboard command. Is there a mod for this?

Thank you in advance. You need to hexedit the cps to move the hi uhf xts3k to 440 MHz. It will go down to 438 MHz once these cps hex changes are made. There are no vco adjustments available in the radios so your only choice is to hexedit the band limits in the cps. There is no FPP available in the xts3k so your only choice is using ASTRO SABER AND XTS3000 CPS to program frequencies. You can change and modify existing scan list that were set up with cps and some other items from the keypad in an xts3k but you cannot program in frequencies nor alpha numerics nor ctcss/dcs or nac from the keypad. FPP IS only available in the xts2500, xts5000 and the apx radios.

If you really believe that the xts3k has fpp capabilities then fine believe it but after 18 years of programming xts3ks, I'll not argue on an internet group so have at it if you think it's possible. The people you mention that have a FPP capable xts3000 with some mythical keypad command to enter new frequencies probably also have a FPP capable Motorola spectra mobile radio and if you ever find any of these mythical radios please buy them immediately because they are worth millions and in the process of seeing these mythical radios would you also tell COWTHIEF that I said hello. The xts3k cps doesn't read or write using versions of windows above windows xp, and below windows 98 unless more advanced windows measures are taken and even then it is not reliable with windows versions above XP nor below win 98. I have reliable cps performance using original rln4008 ribs only under windows 98 and WINDOWS XP without having to resort to these other measures to make the cps read and write reliably with the higher versions of windows. I have limited success using usb only programming cables with windows versions above win xp even with other methods used which I'm not going to get into because it's convoluted and not for beginners.

The xts3k has one big flaw and that is that the glue used on the zebra strip connector of the LCD drys up and the LCD drops pixels, every xts3k that I have seen exhibits this issue after about 12 years or less of life and considering that most xts3ks are now beyond 12 years of age means don't be surprised if your radios LCD starts dropping bits of characters/numbers when the radio becomes hot or colder than RT. The symptom is loss of some or many areas of the LCD characters and there are no more manufacturer replacement nor any substitute displays available anymore so if your radio exhibits this problem then you'll need to source a used display and hope it lasts. As a result of the display issue and the age of the xts3k line if you paid more than ~300 dollars for your radio, even with a good battery, antenna and charger then you were taken. The uhf model has a whored flash code without a full keypad and that flashcode, even with it being whored out, doesn't seem correct for a xts3k. The vhf model does have a FKP but neither have capabilities to change frequencies from the keypad without using CPS and neither radio will ever be capable of FPP.
