Wow, I guess some of you are getting lemons but I ordered 3 units (all spoken for already as gifts) and arrived this afternoon. I was able to open 2 of the units and they are amazing.
No problems so far and incredible satellite acquision, fast routing, easy to use interface no major problems. I've been using portable gps' for the past 7-8 years (I started with a Delorme laptop one and moved to eMap) and this is a good unit from what I can observe in the short time.
Better then my Magellin 780. For those of you questioning the power save feature of 5 minutes on battery power, you do realize that many (and most in the past) GPS units do not operate on battery power and require 12v supply to run at all. Since I use this in my car for the most part, having battery backup is a bonus. Dec 21st, 2007 11:52 pmUpdate: After several resets without change I figured out what was wrong. It seems a tiny piece of hard plastic got between the screen and the bezel and was causing the touch screen sensor to malfunction. All is well now and the screen is as sensitive to finger navigation as any other brand I've tried.
Lol i thought i broke mine after putting a screen protector on it and i cut the size too big, so it kept thinking the screen was being pressed. Trimmed it better and all is well. Dec 21st, 2007 10:43 amFor people who wants to hack this GPS, the following web site really help me a lot, I used less than 30 mins to do it: It require registration, but it's free Under Omnitech GPS (gonav S1000) section, it provides all the program and instruction to hack the GPS. After the hack, I'm able to: 1. Disable the power saving mode (which is many people looking for) 2.
Play media file (mp3/movie/picture/game) 3. No need to reload everything when you soft reset (turn off) the GPS 4. Improve interface when using the gps (by updating the skin, icons are better located) 5. Access window CE and manage files +1 works, and really easy to do! Dec 22nd, 2007 2:04 amIt does not totally turn off after 5 minutes, just the display. TTS still going and a tap on the screen brings the screen back on.
I thought that was after 3 minutes, and after 5 or more, it went to sleep mode and required you to click the ON button? That's my main question, as if it's the latter, then I'll probably get in an accident leaning over to hit the button when I need the display, vs. Easily touching the screen. Can someone confirm this? That when active routing, after say 10-15 minutes of inactivity, all that's needed to get the display back up is a screen-touch? Like I said, these are gifts, or I'd rip them out, toss them in a car and and test it myself. Can you post some instructions - at least on how to get to the point to turn off the 5 minute powersaver?
