Well, first I'd recommend to start off. I haven't really played the game since before FASA went under, so I can't give you much more than that. Love the table top system and the universe, especially some of the horrendous amount of detail that goes into some of the sourcebooks. But the Mechwarrior RPG is crap. You're better off running it as an extension of the BT wargame.
I don't really know why you'd need a generator either. At least when I played it was easy enough that me and my friends would often throw together mechs during math class. There are plenty of websites with unique designs on them, so it wouldn't surprise me if such a thing exists, however. Try Googling it, if you haven't already. Finally, this is a D&D/d20 board, threads about stuff not under those designations and further not about fantasy tend to fall by the wayside pretty quickly. Not that crappy.
I'm more partial to the simple 2nd edition version over the latest 3rd edition. But I'm kinda hoping to see a d20 or SRD-based version.Of course that's a matter of opinion, but my group never could get real traction with it.: I haven't played 2nd edition in years and years, but the combat system just seems overly complex in 3rd (and I usually have no problems with complexity!). We only really got going running it using the BT rules. I think we were also somewhat disappointed that it seemed geared for Shadowrun style play in the MW universe.if you've ever read the story in the MW3 book then you know what I mean. Probably wouldn't turn down another opportunity to play it.
Advantages and disadvantages of customization of general purpose software download. On the other hand, it has among the best character creation systems known to man. Making a MW character is just plain fun.
Just dug out my old copy of 4th Edition but have discovered that I've misplaced my old Record Sheets that came with it - does anyone know which book I'd have to buy in order to get sheets for the mechs that came with the original box? Or am I going to be cheaper just buying the new edition? The record sheets have hardly changed: the rounding rules slightly changed, so perhaps 1 point of armour here and there, but mostly they're all the same.
You're far better off buying PDFs of the record sheets these days - the ability to print them as desired is much better. Here's the basic set of record sheets - Record Sheets 3039 unabridged: US$10 for over 480 record sheets - all the vehicles, mechs, aerospace and variants from the 3025/26 technical readouts (which got consolidated in the recent 3039 readout) along with a few other later designs. Note that some of the mechs are listed out-of-order in the back (Project Phoenix) - these are the Unseen, for which the original art is no longer usable.
The stats are the same as the very original set, but the art may be different. Cheers, Merric.
Agree with an electronic version, either skunkwerks or heavy metal pro. Why don't these guys write an ipad app? HMPro is Winblows only, so it wouldn't be that easy to port to iPad. SSW is Java, so it too is not that easy to do. Not impossible, but not as easy as if they were written in Objective C.
BattleTech: A Mercs Tale. Discussion in 'Story Debates' started by Whitestar60, Apr 6. I'd suggest one of the free mech designer programs such as The Drawing Board for handling most modifications. For help with designing please refere to this link. Here's a link to where you can get drawing board. Feb 25, 2010 Classic Battletech Designer. The Drawing Board: A free but older designer that is still useful. Has ability to factor specialized targeting and tracking systems and LAMs which SSW does not. Constitute me forcing you to use my program. For the record, the reason I decided to program my own Mech designer is the same reason you state that.
